The Zeeland Historical Society has resumed Kids’ Drop-in Saturday at the Dekker Huis Museum on the last Saturday of each month. Each month there will be a theme in which  kids can enjoy and multiple pop-up activities throughout the museum and special activities to explore the museum’s exhibits.

The first Kids’ Drop-In Saturday since early 2020 was held in April with a theme of “King’s Day”. Kids learned about the Dutch holiday which celebrates the birthday of the King of the Netherlands. They planted orange flowers, decorated a flag with Dutch items, and played “Koekhappen”, which means Bite the Cake, a Dutch children’s game in which participants try to bite a piece of cake dangling on a string while blindfolded.

Kids visiting the museum can also join the brand-new Passport program! Anytime they visit the museum they can decorate their own passport. Each visit after, they will receive a stamp on their passport. After four stamps they will receive a special surprise.

The next Kids’ Drop-In Saturday will be on May 29 and will be themed around Memorial Day. Come between 10:00 and 12:00 for fun in the museum! In June, the theme will be Pioneer History and in July here will be activities go to with our Summer Exhibit, Miffy and De Stijl.
