The Dekker- Huis Parlor

The Dekker-Huis Parlor
Sometimes called a “What-Not” shelf, this five-tier walnut piece was hand made by J. H. Boone - you can tell the spires are not “factory made”. Local dentist, Dr. Kuit and his wife Maybelle Coburn Kuit displayed this piece in their home at 34 East Central
The toy dishes represent a form of entertainment from another time.
All dish sets are porcelain, made in Japan.
They all date back to 1920-1930
Check out the three different designs on this set
The Frisian "Staartclock" is in working order and must be wound every twenty-four hours. c. 1780s
Visitor Dawn U. informed us that her grandmother, Theresa Tolsma, donated this rare Frisian Staartclock in 2000.
Antique curio cabinet was hand crafted in an oak finish. Notice the beveled mirror back splash, delicate wood trim on the center door and the convex glass side panels.
Stereoscope viewers provide each eye with a lens that makes the image appear more distant c. 1850s-1930s
The Magic Lantern used fire, fueled by kerosene or oil, to project images on the wall. The slides were hand-painted strips of glass c. 1890s-1910
Tru-Vue Viewers used filmstrips that were pulled through the viewer using a lever. The company was acquired by View-Master c. 1940-1946
View-Master was intended to be an educational tool, aimed primarily at adults c. 1966-1981
Elaborately carved wooden picture easel c. 1880
“Woman Under a Tree” by artist, Edward Percy Moran c. 1880
